PANAJI: The Economic Offences Cell (EOC) today has registered an FIR against two for cheating hundreds of investors to the tune of over Rs 20 crore on the pretext of investing in the share market.
The two have been identified as Myron Rodrigues s/o Maurice Rodrigues, 53 yrs and Deepali Parab w/o Myron, 40 yrs both r/o Villa No.10, Costa Ninho Virdi, Kirbhat Nuvem Salcete.
As per information, Rodrigues represented the investors as a stock broker and investment advisor dealing with investments directly in the stock market and his wife represented the investors as financial experts, handling investments of hundreds of clients in Goa.
EoC said that both dishonestly induced the investors to invest money in the stock market and other financial instruments assuring returns on a short-term basis on all investments.
Based on their representation, believing to be genuine, the investors had deposited Rs. 20,83,90,336/- with accused persons wide money transfer through RTGS, NEFTY, cheques Etc. from the investor’s banking account to the bank account of accused Rodrigues with different transactions for the purpose of investment.
However accused persons failed to pay assured return as well as principal amount to the investors, thus misappropriated the amount/money of the investors to their own use for their personal gains and thereby cheated the investors to the tune of Rs. 20,83,90,336.
