PANAJI: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Panaji Coastal Security Police arrested a Bengaluru-based fraud accused who had escaped from lawful custody in Karnataka and was hiding in Goa.
The accused, Gagan Deep N (32), a resident of Chikballapur in Karnataka, was earlier arrested by Bengaluru City Police on March 31, 2026 for allegedly cheating a Bengaluru-based charitable trust of around ₹6.30 crore by posing as an official of a reputed multinational company.
Police said the accused was brought to Goa by the Bengaluru Police on April 3, 2026 to recover a portion of the defrauded amount, which he had allegedly spent at a casino. However, on the night of April 4, while inside the casino premises, he reportedly took advantage of the crowd, pushed the escorting officers and managed to escape.
Following a complaint lodged by Police Inspector Rakesh C. of Devanahalli Police Station, the Panaji Coastal Security Police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and launched an immediate search using technical surveillance and human intelligence.
During the operation, the accused was traced to Dodamarg and apprehended from an eco-farm where he had been hiding. He was subsequently brought to Goa and formally placed under arrest.
Police said the accused will be handed over to the Bengaluru Police, who are in the process of taking custody for further investigation.
The operation was led by PI Sajith Pillai of Panaji Coastal Security Police Station, along with ASI Carlos Pontes, HC Suryakant Bordekar, PC Laxman Kauthankar and PC Rajesh Mardolkar, under the supervision of SP Roy Pereira and overall guidance of SP Coastal Security Rajesh Kumar.
