PANJIM:GOA RTI Forum today has filed complaint with the state governemnt against unauthorised installations of advertising signages in the capital city of Panaji.
RTI Forum Jt Secretary Sandeep Heble has said that there have been installation of unauthorized Advertising boards near the Old Secretariat, on 18th June Road and its connecting roads; and few other locations in Panaji and that such unauthorized installations have no legal sanctity and have been done violating laws of the land. To point out few violations:
“In particular, there is no Collector’s notification which is mandatory for such installations. No tender process has been followed, There are no permissions from the Corporation of the City of Panaji and no Resolution from Corporation of the City of Panaji Council,” said Heble
He further said that there are no clearances from other Government Departments such as Electricity Department or Traffic Police which are necessary under the laws and that these advertising boards are also not as per approved sizes or in accordance to State Government and / or CCP’s advertisement policies on public spaces.
“Such installations are an encroachment on public property and a misuse of public space for private commercial gain, violation of defacement laws. Furthermore, such installations are putting traffic safety at serious risk and damaging the city’s aesthetic beauty and environment,” he added
Meanwhile, RTI Forum has requested the authroities to investigate the unauthorized installations, impose appropriate penalties and / or and take other immediate action as may be required under the laws.
