PANAJI: The Goa State Election Commission (SEC) has commenced the ward delimitation process in preparation for the upcoming municipal elections, which are scheduled for April.
The move marks the official start of the election preparations for all 11 municipal councils in the State.
Election Commissioner Menino D’Souza, in an official order, directed the division of municipal areas into wards for the councils of Pernem, Valpoi, Bicholim, Mapusa, Mormugao, Margao, Cuncolim, Quepem, Canacona, Curchorem-Cacora, and Sanguem.
Deputy collectors and mamlatdars have been appointed as Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to assist in the delimitation process.
The term of the current municipal councils is set to expire in April, making the timely completion of preparations essential.
While Goa’s municipal elections are officially conducted on a non-party basis, political parties, including the ruling BJP and opposition groups, are expected to support candidate panels, adding significant political weight to the polls.
