PANAJI: The State government has initiated steps to implement the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 at the middle stage (Grade III) of from the academic year 2025-2026.
Director for State Council for Education, Research and Training (SCERT) Meghana Shetgaonkar revealed that a meeting is scheduled on Monday to decide on whether to move ahead with the implementation of NEP at the preparatory stage Grade III.
While foundational stage one, the entry stage of preschool at age three, began implementing NEP recommendations this term, class IX and foundation stage two—the second year of preschool at age four—began doing so last year.
Shetgaonkar remarked that from the academic year 2026-27, the State will adopt NEP for Class VII and Class VIII.
As the nation’s first state to fully implement the NEP, Goa intends to finish implementing it for all courses, from preschool through Class XII, by 2027–2028. Post academic, the State will take up physical restructuring of the schools as per demand which may involve relocating, upgrading or collocating in the school complexes.
Additionally, the government previously declared that the NEP for special needs students would be implemented beginning in the 2025–2026 school year.
Class IX students already take two exams per semester, and Class VI students will soon follow suit. In contrast, grade X students will take the annual Board examination pattern.
While Grade VI student will have nine subjects with new textbooks to be introduced in all the curricular areas, the Class X and IX will continue with ten subjects.
