PANAJI: The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, is taking strict action against the nuisance of touts and illegal businesses on the state’s beaches.
This move is aimed at enhancing the safety and experience of tourists while ensuring that only authorized businesses operate within designated areas.
The Department has issued a directive to shack operators, beach associations, and other stakeholders to prevent touts and unauthorized vendors from operating on beach premises.
In response to concerns raised by beach associations, they have been asked to take proactive measures. In case they are unable to control the situation, the Department of Tourism will step in with legal mechanisms to permanently curb unauthorized activities.
Further, beach shack operators have been instructed to ensure that no illegal businesses operate within their premises. The Department is also exploring stringent regulations to empower beach associations in handling such issues effectively.
Speaking on the development, Director of Tourism, Kedar Naik*, said, “The Department of Tourism is working towards a hassle-free and tourist-friendly environment in Goa. Tackling the issue of touts and illegal businesses on beaches is crucial for maintaining the state’s reputation as a premium travel destination. We will continue to take strong measures to ensure that visitors can enjoy our beaches without any disturbances.”
Tourists and stakeholders are encouraged to report tout-related grievances on the Beach Vigil App as well, as the government remains committed to ensuring a seamless, hassle-free experience for visitors.
