CANACONA: Goa University (GU) students delegation on a Field-Study Trip to Canacona called on the Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) on Saturday.
A delegation of 30 Students along with the Faculty of School of Biological Science and Biotechnology from the Botany discipline of Goa University visited to discuss and understand the importance of the Traditional knowledge system in Ethnobotany, the Importance of PBR, and Medicinal plants in traditional knowledge of the village folks.
During their field tour, the students visited the “Jermal Tree” a heritage tree nearby to Shree Mallikarjun Temple, Shristhal with the intention to know the importance and collect information about the Tree.
Shree Mallikarjun Devasthan president Vithoba Desai, received the students delegation at the temple.
Later the student’s group visited the local traditional healer Kanta Gayak and interacted with another traditional healer from the village Mhalgo Velip.
The students had a fruitful discussion with the Shristhal BMC Chairman and members about PBR and other aspects related to their study. BMC member Shirish Pai gave detailed information about ‘Jermal Tree, besides providing information about the functioning of BMC.
Earlier Shristhal BMC Chairman Vinay Tubki welcomed the group and also proposed a Vote of Thanks. BMC member Tejas Naik Gaonkar and PhD student and Chinchinim BMC Member Celly Quados were present during this visit, while GU faculties Dr Dhillan Velip and Dr Tanvi Nitin Prabhu accompanied the students and helped to obtain detailed information on their respective study matters.
