CHICHINIM: A public meeting to demand a People’s Regional Plan organized by Velim MLA Engr Cruz Silva received an overwhelming response from all sections of society.
The non-political meeting was held in Chinchinim village at the NH66 junction near St. Sebastian chapel.
The gathering saw Goans from all walks of life, including eminent local citizens such as Mr. Agnel Furtado and Cyril Leitao, social activists such as Abhijeet Prabhudesai, Diana Tavares and Anthony Silva, local panchas, sarpanchas and ex-sarpanchas including Gerson Gomes, Dominic Noronha, John Beda and Valentin Barreto, leaders of various political parties such as Freddy Travasso, Kenicia Menezes and Valmiki Naik, and even concerned citizens from other parts of Goa including taxi union leaders Chetan Kamat and Savio Goes, and educationists James Fernandes and Prof. Ramrao Wagh.
All the speakers lashed out at the rampant destruction of Goa’s environment, aided by the illegal conversions of eco-sensitive areas into settlement by the BJP-led Govt.
Engr Cruz Silva gave a call for all to unite and organize such meetings in all villages of Goa and start a movement to demand a People’s Regional Plan.
