PANAJI: The Goa CGST Commissionerate has 20,960 registered taxpayers and has contributed ₹1,143.87 crore to the Central Government’s revenue up to August 2026, even as tax authorities step up efforts to improve taxpayer awareness and voluntary compliance across the state.
The figures were highlighted during a four-day taxpayer awareness programme conducted in Goa from September 28 to October 1 by the Mumbai Regional Unit of the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS), under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
Led by Sumit Kumar, Principal Additional Director General, DGTS Mumbai, the programme brought together tax officials, industry representatives, students and educational institutions to discuss GST procedures, reforms and taxpayer services.
The initiative began on September 28 with an interaction with officers of the CGST Goa Commissionerate, followed by a visit to Goa Shipyard Limited. A GST awareness programme for trade and industry representatives was held on September 29, along with a session for students at the Goa campus of BITS Pilani.
On September 30, officials conducted an awareness session for students of the Goa Business School at Goa University.
The accommodation, food and beverage sectors account for a significant share of GST collections in Goa, according to information released by the authorities.
Since April 2026, the DGTS Mumbai Regional Unit has participated in or organised 54 taxpayer awareness programmes, comprising 32 seminars, webinars and hybrid programmes and 22 interactive sessions. The programmes are aimed at improving understanding of tax laws and procedures and encouraging voluntary compliance.
GST Seva Kendra serves over two lakh citizens
The CGST Goa Commissionerate is also focusing on taxpayer assistance through its GST Seva Kendra at CGST Bhavan. The centre provides assistance in resolving GST-related issues and offers guidance on various policy matters.
According to the authorities, more than two lakh citizens have availed themselves of the centre’s services so far.
Over the past one-and-a-half years, the Goa CGST Commissionerate has conducted seven awareness programmes in collaboration with business organisations, trade associations and educational institutions. These have included seminar-cum-webinars on GST 2.0 reforms and special awareness programmes focused on the changes.
A Grievance Redressal Committee has also been established with representatives of leading trade and industry associations to address taxpayer concerns.
Regular GST SAMVAAD sessions are being conducted with taxpayers and trade bodies to gather feedback and understand issues faced by businesses.
The authorities have also placed emphasis on completing taxpayer registrations through the online process within three to seven days. The refund process has been streamlined through the Back Office Portal, with arrangements for sanctioning refunds within the prescribed time limit.
Officials said the ongoing awareness initiatives are intended to make GST procedures more accessible to taxpayers while strengthening engagement between the tax administration, businesses and educational institutions.
