FATAL ACCIDENT
–Major accident between a car and Kadamba Bus at Maxem slope
–Car driver dies on the spot, 6 others injured, One in critical condition.
–Vernekar Family from Gadag (Karwar-Karnataka) on way to Shiroda Temple.
–One Bus occupant had minor injuries is discharged from CHC.

CANACONA: In a major tranversity of fate, a family from Gadag (Karnataka) on way to a temple in Shiroda (Shree Kamaxi Temple), met with a fatal accident, after the Car in which they were travelling met with an accident at Maxem slope (in Loliem-Canacona) on Monday morning.
A lifeless Car driver Rajesh Vernekar 49/ M of Gadag (Karwar) was found pressed on the Drivers Seat and his motionless body was removed by cutting the door of the mangled Car bearing registration no. GA05 B4721, while one of the five other Car –occupants with head-injuries is in critical condition and rest others are seriously injured shifted to South-Goa District Hospital after an 108 ambulance shifted them to CHC.
The injured car occupants are Anjali Vernekar 49, has head injuries and is in very serious condition, Ramdas Vernekar 29, Karishma Vernekar 55, Anusha Vernekar 21, Twinkle Kolvekar 18.
Robhina Fakir 19 KTC passenger travelling in KTC bus had minor injuries and she is discharged from CHC after providing first Aid.
The car going down the Maxem slope hit head-on to an oncoming Kadamba Bus in stationery position at the slight turn.
The KTC bus was reportedly stationery after driver halted thebus which going up the slope, seeing an car approaching in wrong side.
According to police the accident occurred at about 8 am, as the Car driven by Rajesh Vernekar coming from Gadag-Karwar was headed to Shiroda, and while coming down the Maxem slope (about 100 mtrs away from the one-way road to approach Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road), the car veered to its right side, before crashing into an oncoming Kadamba Bus (GA08 V5072) coming-up the Maxem plateau.
The site is also very close the accident-site, where a Karwar girl pillion riding on a KTM bike was killed a fortnight ago.
According to KTC Bus driver who spoke to the media at the site,informed seeing the ferociously speeding car at the slight curve, coming down the slope in wrongside lane, he stopped the bus, and the car hit the bus head-on.
Due to the impact, the front portion of the Car got crushed and half of the car got badly mangled. ‘ Coming from Margao, I was proceeding with less than seating capacity passengers to Karwar, when I saw the Car was perhaps racing at a high-speed of 70-80 Km/hr in my lane and towards my direction. I stopped the bus in my lane as the Car came and dashed head-on against the Bus. I immediately dialed 108 and also informed police about the about the accident.
As motorists and locals gathered in large numbers, the injured fcar occupants were taken out of the Car and virtually laid on the road, while valliant efforts were made to bring out the driver lying motionless crushed between the seat and steering. Locals tried to pull and break the mangled door, but he was finally pulled out after fire personel helping in cutting open the mangled door.
According to sources, the Gadag family was coming to Goa, and being Monday was headed to Shree Kamaxi Temple, Shiroda. Coconut, flowers and other ingredients were reportedly found in the car as a preparation to visit the temple.
