PORVORIM: The Goa government on Wednesday informed the Bombay High Court at Goa that it has turned down a second proposal seeking to extend the tenure of Goa Dental College Dean, Dr Ida de Noronha de Ataide, effectively concluding her post-retirement service.
During the hearing, the State submitted that Dr Ataide’s extended term came to an end on March 31, 2026. In the interim, Anita Spadigam, Professor and Head of the Department of Oral Pathology at the Goa Dental College and Hospital, has been assigned additional charge as Dean alongside her existing responsibilities.
The statement was made in response to a petition that had earlier sought the removal of Dr Ataide following the grant of her post-retirement extension.
At an earlier hearing held on March 24, the government had informed the court that a fresh request submitted by Dr Ataide for further extension was under review.
It had also clarified that her ongoing extension was set to expire on March 31, with no final decision taken at that time.
The State’s counsel had then requested that the matter be scheduled for April 1, noting that if the extension plea was rejected, the petition would become infructuous. The High Court accepted the request and adjourned the case accordingly.
