PANAJI: Co-operation Minister Govind Gaude today announced two new schemes – Deposit Protection Scheme for Credit Co-operative societies in the Goa implemented by making amendment in the existing Goa Cooperative Societies Act and Eklavya Prashikshan Yojana to provide coaching to ST students of class X, XI and XII in the State through Tribal Welfare Department.
Speaking on the occasion Govind Gaude said that the Welfare Schemes are implemented by Government has substantially helped to improve the living conditions of weaker sections and needy people.
He said thrust has been laid to ensure effective implementation of the schemes and benefits to deserving people.
Speaking further Minister Gaude said Deposit Protection plays a key role in maintanence of financial stability by sustaining public confidence in the cooperative credit system in the State.
” In the recent past there are cases of increased instances of depositors losing their hard earned money invested in financial institutions including the Bank and Credit Cooperative Societies undergone liquidation,” he said
Considering this scenario and to provide a protective cover to the depositors of such Credit Societies, he said Government has formulated Deposit Protection Scheme for credit cooperative societies in the State of Goa.
Speaking on Eklavya Prashikshan Scheme Minister said the objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the students to develop their skill and talent for pursuing higher studies in the professional degree courses wherein government will bear 75% of the total fees charged by the coaching institute under Goa Coaching Regulation Act. The scheme shall commence from the date of it’s notification in the official gazette, Minister added
