Panaji: Of late the State has seen a slump in COVID19 positive cases and there to be nothing to cheer about as the State government itself admits there is slack in testing.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday admitted that the testing has gone down to 1200 to 1500.
“We want the testing to be high and should be anywhere between 2200 to 2500 daily,” he said.
In the past few days while the positive cases have dropped to as low as 160, there has also been drop in testing to upto 747.
He attributed the drop in testing to many factors as the industries have been asked to take private testing etc.
“The private companies wanted us to test their employees but we have told them that they have to tie-up with private labs. Besides this, the State has also stopped testing the travelers, which were in large numbers earlier,“ he stated.
Rane said there was no point testing the entire villages.
“People have to come forward and test. As the cases come down, we must also continue to maintain social distancing and masks,” he said.
Rane further said that the State has also begun post COVID treatment facilities in Goa.
He said the home isolation kits are also being distributed smoothly.
Speaking about the night clubs, he said the videos were shameful and Goa’s tourism does not depend only on night clubs.
“The clubs must maintain COVID19 norms. The authorities have been asked to maintain strict vigil,” he said.
