PANAJI: Tourism Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgoankar today has informed that his department will crack down on the guest houses and accomodations which have been operating without the valid registeration.
“It has come to our notice that many tourists who come down to Goa for vacations are seen checking in guest room and other hotels which are not registered with the government,” said Azgoankar speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference
He further said that this was a major reason the exact tourists figure is not known. The government will be keeping a check and cracking on such accomodations.
“My department has already started cracking on such accomodations and strict action will be taken against such violation,” He added
Meanwhile, Azgoankar said that this time the government has tonned down the carnival festivals and will only be held in Panaji and Margao starting from tomorrow.
He further said that many people had been criticising him for giving permission for hosting of the Carnival during the time of the pandemic.
“My view was that the carnival should take place because it’s an annual state festival happening since a long time and this time it has been done keeping Covid norms,” the minister said
Azgoankar informed that the total budget for the carnival this time is 54 lakhs.
