PORVORIM: Sports Minister Govind Gaude stated that regardless of whether the association is registered with the department or not, the state government would offer any Goan athlete who is chosen for the Paralympics in 2024 all the assistance they need.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar brought up the issue on the House floor.
According to Gaude, Goa has all the facilities needed for the Paralympics, as they were constructed during Purple Fest. We are prepared to offer the Para Olympics Association our complete support should they come to us.
GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai said that the state government has crores for hosting events but it doesn’t have money to pay our Para Athletes.
Sardesai demanded “coaches, coaching camps, complete set of kits and equipment, travel grants for the athlete +1 for Para Athletes.”
The medalists’ concerns regarding the wait for their prize money were acknowledged by Gaude. He also talked about the problems with unpaid volunteers.
Gaude clarified that protocols are being observed to guarantee the fastest possible distribution of the prize money.
“We are working to resolve the delays and ensure that all prize money is released,” he stated.
