VASCO: Airports Authority of India, Goa International Airport performed Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Airport Terminal building extension project on 07.06.2021 (Monday).
To be Built in approximate site Area of 56m x 80m, the extension shall have Ground+ 2 floors with Basement, adding 18,300 sqm of built up area to the existing 65,000 sqm area. It is expected to increase the passenger handling capacity to 13 Milliion Passengers per annum (MPPA) from the existing 7.65 MPPA and shall be capable of handling at least 3250 Passengers per hour(PHP) by adding 500PHP to the existing capacity.
With an estimated cost of Rs. 255.69 Crore, the extension building with centrally air conditioning shall have I Nos island of 32 check in counters taking total to 96 check in counters (64 existing counters), adequate nos. of toilets for gents, ladies and differently-abled persons, baggage conveyor belts, queuing space, segregation railing, back-up offices for Airlines, facilitation counters, weighing machines, automated baggage drop system, X-BIS machines, Escalators, Elevators, Fire detection, alarm and protection system with Fire Control Room, Boarding Gates, Commercial spaces with area 1075 sqm including Retail and F&B stores, Surveillance Close circuit TV system, FIDS, Security hold area and shall accommodate 2 new Passenger Boarding Bridges to make overall PBB’s to 10.
The proposed expansion of existing Integrated Terminal building towards east side involves internal modification of existing Terminal building and expansion of existing Apron Area by 15000 sqm to accommodate 2 Nos of AB-321/B-737 type of aircrafts. The existing domestic and international passenger movement within the terminal is proposed to be interchanged at first and second floors so that the SHA within the existing building on eastern side becomes Domestic SHA It is pertinent to mention that AAI is following GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) system for sustainable and environment friendly design and the extension building will be constructed as per ECBC norms and obtain 4 star GRIHA rating.
