PANAJI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the government authorities to inspect five jetties in the state as part of a compliance check within the allotted time frame.
The Court further declared that all five jetties would be subject to the guidelines it issued today in the Malim Jetty matter, which included maintaining sanitation, not disposing of waste in the river, preventing fish water sludge from seeping or spilling on roads, and prohibiting unauthorized construction.
A number of shortcomings were discovered, and the government authorities reassured the attorney that they would address these shortcomings.
The government has designated the Director of Fisheries as the nodal officer for all complaints, and he or she will coordinate with other departments to take appropriate action. The court was also informed that Malim’s illicit weighing machines would be the target of legal action.
The court was considering a contempt petition that was brought before it in relation to the declining standards of hygiene and other remedies at the Malim Fisheries Jetty and five other jetties in Goa, as well as the non-compliance with the 2020 court order.
