Shimla: Since the arrival of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has recorded damages exceeding ₹1,500 crore, according to official reports. The relentless rain has claimed 88 lives, while 35 individuals remain missing in various rain-related incidents.
As per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the state has witnessed 42 flash floods, 25 cloudbursts, and 32 landslides so far. A total of 1,316 houses have been either fully or partially damaged due to the intense weather events.
The local Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Tuesday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning in isolated pockets of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts.
In the last 24 hours since Saturday evening, light to moderate rainfall was recorded across several locations. Dharamshala received 35 mm, Malraon 26.4 mm, Kangra 26 mm, Dhaulakuan 17.5 mm, and Manali 11 mm among others. Thunderstorms affected Sundernagar, Shimla, Murari Devi, and Jubbarhatti.
Road and utility services have also been severely disrupted. Nearly 200 roads, including two national highways, were shut for vehicular movement by Sunday evening. Additionally, 75 power distribution transformers and 97 water supply schemes were reported to be affected.
Mandi district alone saw the closure of around 131 roads, including the key Manali-Kotali stretch (NH-70), after being battered by multiple cloudbursts on the night of June 30. National Highway 305 from Sainj to Aut is also blocked due to landslides in Kullu.
Temperature-wise, there has been no major variation. Kukumseri remained the coldest at night with a minimum of 12.8°C, while Una recorded the highest day temperature at 35.6°C.
