New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin on assuming charge as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, calling himself a party worker and describing the new chief as his boss. The remark underlined the BJP’s emphasis on organisational discipline and collective leadership as Nabin formally took over the party’s top post.
At 45, Nitin Nabin has become the youngest leader to head the BJP and the 12th person to hold the position. He succeeds Jagat Prakash Nadda at a time when the party is preparing for several crucial state elections this year and next, as well as laying the groundwork for the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. His elevation is widely seen as a signal of generational transition and renewed focus on strengthening the party organisation from the grassroots upward.
Nabin’s appointment was uncontested and backed by the party’s senior leadership. He brings nearly two decades of political and organisational experience, having risen through the ranks of the BJP’s youth wing in Bihar. Known for a party first approach, he is regarded as accessible, grounded, and skilled in coordination, qualities that are expected to help him manage the party’s vast structure across states.
A five time legislator, Nabin first entered electoral politics in 2006 and later represented Bankipur in the Bihar Assembly for four consecutive terms. He has also served as a minister in the Bihar government, handling portfolios such as law, road construction, and urban development. Within the organisation, he has held key roles including president of the BJP’s Bihar unit and national general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
One of the defining moments of his recent career came during the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, where he was tasked with steering the BJP’s campaign in a state dominated by the opposition. The party’s decisive victory there highlighted his ability to manage complex political challenges through detailed planning and micro level coordination.
As Nitin Nabin takes charge, the BJP leadership expects him to consolidate organisational strength, maintain internal balance, and lead the party through an important phase marked by high stakes electoral contests and long term strategic planning.
