MAPUSA: Unknown persons allegedly illegally extracted sand from the Chapora River and stacked it along the riverbank at Camurlim, Bardez, without obtaining the required permissions from the concerned authorities.
According to a complaint lodged on September 29 at 7.19 p.m. by Krishna Gawas, Mamlatdar of Bardez Taluka, the incident took place prior to 2 p.m. on September 26, 2026, behind Prabhu Temple at Camurlim, Bardez.
The complaint states that the unidentified persons extracted sand from the river water and subsequently stacked it on the riverbank. The sand was estimated to be worth approximately Rs 10,000.
The act allegedly amounts to theft of minor minerals, namely sand, as the extraction was carried out without obtaining permission from the competent authorities.
PSI Prakash Ghadi is conducting further investigation into the case.
