New Delhi: India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar, shed light on the dire plight of minorities in Pakistan in a recent address to the Lok Sabha. As India continues to scrutinize human rights violations across borders, Jaishankar underscored the nation’s commitment to raising these critical issues at international forums, including the United Nations. This stance reflects India’s persistent concern over the deteriorating situation of minorities in Pakistan, which has been a longstanding point of contention between the two nations.
In his detailed response to a question during the Lok Sabha’s Question Hour, Jaishankar highlighted that India closely tracks the treatment of minorities in Pakistan. Recently, in February 2025, there were 10 reported cases of atrocities against the Hindu community and three incidents involving the Sikh community. Additionally, two cases related to the Ahmedia community and one concerning the Christian community were documented. These incidents are not isolated; they form part of a larger pattern of persecution that India has consistently brought to the international spotlight.
Jaishankar reiterated India’s firm stance at the United Nations, criticizing Pakistan for its state-sanctioned policies of human rights abuses and persecution of minorities. At the UNHRC, India’s representative emphasized that Pakistan harbors UN-sanctioned terrorists, reflecting the country’s ongoing erosion of democratic values. This direct approach signals India’s resolve to ensure that Pakistan’s human rights record is scrutinized globally, underscoring the need for accountability and reform.
