PANAJI: Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai informed that the proposal of the State Government for the inclusion of the Gouly/Dhangar Community is already taken up with the Government of India, which is still pending.
“The proposal of the State Government for inclusion of Gouly/Dhangar Community is already taken up with the Government of India, which is still pending,” said Desai.
“The government has enhanced the percentage of reservation for OBC communities in educational institutions and recruitment in Government undertaking from 19.5% to 27%,’ he said.
Desai said that the said notification has been submitted to all concerned HODs.
Former Civil Service Officer N D Agarwal was appointed as the advisor to prepare a detailed report for the inclusion of Dhangar-Gouly in the ST list under Article 342 of the Constitution of India.
The State has over 20,000 Dhangar population spread across.
The BJP-led government had, in January last year, made representation to the Centre demanding ST status for the Dhangar community.
In July 2018, then minister Kavlekar urged President of India Ram Nath Kovind to intervene and ensure an amendment to the related Act to include Goa’s Dhangar-Gouly community in the ST category.
