New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a fully indigenous 4G stack and over 97,500 BSNL towers from Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in telecom technology. Addressing the development, PM Modi noted that BSNL’s 4G network reflects the swadeshi spirit, connecting over 22 million Indians across more than 92,000 sites. He emphasized that this move strengthens India’s journey from dependence to confidence, fostering employment, boosting exports, supporting fiscal revival, and advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also highlighted Odisha’s development potential, saying the state, though long afflicted by hardships, is poised for prosperity in the current decade. He announced the recent approval of two semiconductor units and a semiconductor park in Odisha, aiming to accelerate industrial growth and technology self-sufficiency.
The newly commissioned 4G towers, built at a cost of around Rs 37,000 crore, incorporate fully indigenous technology. These include more than 92,600 BSNL 4G technology sites, which are expected to enhance connectivity in remote regions, border areas, and Maoist-affected zones.
PM Modi also flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express between Berhampur and Udhna (Surat), further boosting regional connectivity. Ahead of his visit, the Prime Minister had tweeted that these projects, worth over Rs 50,000 crore, mark a historic milestone in expanding India’s telecom infrastructure using local technology.
The launch underscores India’s emergence as a global manufacturing hub in telecom, combining technological self-reliance with large-scale employment generation and improved digital connectivity for citizens nationwide.
