New Delhi: Indian government sources have firmly rejected claims made by Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, calling his allegations of Indian “aggression from the eastern front” baseless and misleading.
During his speech, Sharif accused India of violating international law and launching acts of aggression in May. He further claimed that India failed to cooperate in investigating the Pahalgam incident and accused New Delhi of exploiting a humanitarian tragedy for political purposes. Sharif also alleged that the Pakistani Air Force had destroyed seven Indian fighter jets, under the leadership of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar.
Indian officials categorically dismissed these assertions. They stated that the Pahalgam incident and other border events were investigated independently by India, consistently revealing cross-border infiltration and ceasefire violations by Pakistan-based actors. India reaffirmed its adherence to international humanitarian law while highlighting that Pakistan-based militants often operate from civilian areas, endangering their own population.
The claim regarding the destruction of Indian Air Force assets was labelled “unverified and propaganda” aimed at inflating Pakistan’s military narrative. Indian sources emphasized that the Indian Air Force remains fully operational and combat-ready.
Officials noted that Pakistan’s narrative is part of a recurring strategy to deflect attention from its internal security failures and its continued support for cross-border terrorism. While India remains committed to dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes, it urged the international community to recognise and address the threat posed by terror infrastructure originating from Pakistan, rather than accepting attempts to portray victimhood at global forums.
