Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services issues Swell Surge warning for coastal areas from 11.30hours of Sept 7 to 23.30hours of Sept 9; those living along coastal belt to be cautious; sea will be very rough; sea water likely to gush into localities.
In a press statement issued, IMD Goa said that it is been forecasted that sea will be rough near shore and the low-lying areas of Mormugao, Panjim and Vasco and may experience surges due to the effect of high swell waves having 1.7 meters to 2.3 meters height.
The IMD has directed that water based recreational activities along the coast be suspended during the period.
The fishermen are advised against entering into sea and that plying of boats very near to the coasts may be avoided. “The coastal region will have its significant effect,” IMD said.
However, the effect of the event in the open ocean is likely to be minimal.
The Southwest monsoon has been very active over Goa coast since its onset, with State witnessing nearly 27 percent surplus rains till date. As on Sunday, the total rainfall received was 137.31 inches, as compared to the annual average of 108.46 inches.
