CANACONA – Heavy rains have lashed Canacona for two days, with many low-lying roads getting inundated in the taluka.
Canacona observatory recorded about 114 mm Thursday morning even as seasonal rains are inching closer to a thousand mark and pegged at 938 mm.
The Chapoli dam, often tagged as Canacona ‘s Life-Line, having attained substantial storage at 635.275 Ham, has a Reduced Level (RI) of 33.30 metres of water in its Reservoir. This summer, Chapoli dam has reported RL- 32.02 mts as its lowest level.
After heavy overnight downpour rains pounding incessantly caused flooding on many low-lying roads.
According to sources, water in most rivers, including the non-perennial rivulets, which have started to flow only recently, has swelled and run on its brinks.
As the rains continue to pound, not many vehicles are seen on the roads, while the taluka’s commercial hub at Chaudi though all shops/establishments are open, wore a deserted look.
However, offices and banks are seen functioning as usual, with only a few people seen entering the same.
Interestingly, undeterred at the early morning and school starting time heavy spell, according to sources, all educational institutions in the taluka also had normal attendances.
