The two speeches on consecutive nights – one by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and second by our very own Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant do not seem to have taken any earth-shaking measures to fight the second wave of COVID19.
While it is true that the State and the country are better prepared this time around to fight the deadly virus, which is come back with a vengeance, the laxity shown by our Health departments and government is deplorable.
Everybody knew that with several countries hit by second wave of COVID19, at some stage it would hit India and for that we should have been even better prepared. Vaccines alone will not help the cause. People with second dose have also tested positive for Cororna.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that LOCKDOWN should be the last resort to the State and the Chief Minister of Goa seems to be toeing his line.
Agreed, lockdown at this stage for Goa could be disastrous. Already the State’s financial condition is in dire straits.
While the decision of Night Curfew is welcomed, one opines what could have been the reason for keeping the casinos open.
Due to night curfew, bars and restaurants, theatres, malls etc will have to be closed by 9.30 pm for the customers to reach home by 10 pm.
But here is an exemption to the controversies’ favourite child off-shore Casinos, they can remain open till 6 am provided their front-desk counters close before 10 pm.
Does the CM wants to say the COVID19 virus does not cause infection only in Casinos after 10 pm? If Casinos are open let the local Bars & Restaurants and other businesses too remain open with 50 p.c occupancy after 10 pm. Why indifferent treatment?
After the measures announced by the CM, it is now clear that the people have to fend for themselves and the government can only provide treatment and will make no efforts whatsoever to prevent the virus from spreading.
Here, it would be worthwhile mentioning that the only government isn’t responsible for the spread, it is the responsibility of the citizens too to stop the spread of virus.
Despite the curbs, it has been seen that the people were freely roaming and arguing with police on first day of night curfew at many places.
Yes, Casinos are favourite child of Dr Pramod Sawant and he would not make any efforts to bring them in line but it is the duty of each one of us to take care of our family members, by staying home and venturing out without any reason.
Those eligible must also get themselves vaccinated at the given time. People with any symptoms of COVID need to get tested and admitted if necessary. We have seen that 90 p.c deaths are due to late hospitalisation.
While the exams have been postponed for now, it would be held sometime soon. Hence, the students must not start playing cricket or football in the fields.
Another important thing is, many times we see at junction where police penalise people for wearing masks, two wheeler riders stop about 150 meters before to wear mask and then proceed. REMEMBER – mask is to save yourself from infection and not to save from police fines.
If we follow all SOPs and crowding, we TOGETHER can defeat this virus again.
