PANAJI: In a move aimed at ensuring consistent and reliable electricity supply, the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Goa and Union Territories has introduced the Resource Adequacy Regulations, 2025.
The regulations, published in the Gazette of India on June 6, lay out a clear framework for power utilities to plan their energy resources effectively.
The new rules require distribution licensees to create short-, medium-, and long-term power planning strategies to guarantee sufficient power availability.
These plans must ensure that utilities have adequate contracted capacity to meet projected electricity demand and avoid power shortages.
The regulation framework covers critical aspects such as accurate demand forecasting, generation and procurement planning, and regular monitoring to ensure compliance.
It also calls for maintaining reserve margins to handle demand fluctuations and emergencies.
The JERC’s initiative is expected to enhance the reliability and stability of electricity supply across Goa and the Union Territories, reducing the risks of outages and improving consumer confidence in the power sector.
