MARGAO: The Charles Corriea Foundation has emphasized the necessity of going over all completed work, pointing out any flaws, and offering guidance for the final restoration and completion of the Kala Academy.
Meeting called by Kala Rakhonn Mandd at the Gomant Vidya Niketan hall featured a detailed presentation on the declining state of the Kala Academy by renowned architect and Charles Corriea Foundation convenor Tanvi Karia.
It was demanded at the meeting, which was attended by politicians, MLAs, social activists, and artists, that the government release a White Paper on Kala Academy. Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai urged the artists to petition the High Court for intervention, requesting a White Paper from the government, while Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao asked for an inspection to determine Kala Academy’s state of health and pledged to bring up the matter during the upcoming Assembly session.
Following the presentation, CCF Convenor Tanvi Karia stated that, although an advisory committee comprising the primary users ought to have been established during the restoration process, neither it nor the artists were consulted.
She went on to say that when people expressed concerns about the renovation and repair work and offered assistance to the authorities, it was perceived as opposition rather than a suggestion.
Tanvi went on to say that the restoration of Kala Academy was an opaque process because there was no communication at all and everyone was kept in the dark about what was going on inside.
“The current restoration works had the opportunity to carry out all the necessary works in good time, unlike other prior restoration works that were bound by time constraint,” she continued.
Roseferns and Francis de Tuem, two titists, also spoke at the gathering and gave the Kala Rakhonn Mandd their support.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao stated in his speech that Kala Academy has been the artists’ soul. He claimed that the perceptive speech made by CCF Convenor Tanvi Karia had revealed the fixes made by the corrupt BJP. Declaring that there is an open massacre at the Kala Academy, Yuri said he and his colleagues would collaborate with Goan artists to preserve Goa’s pride.
According to Vijai Sardesai, he has petitioned the High Court regarding the repairs made at the Kala Academy. referring to the government’s request for a white paper detailing the repairs and renovations completed at the Kala Academy thus far, made by seasoned journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai.
