PANAJI: In the ongoing Karwar Navy espionage case, two more accused have been sentenced by the NIA Special Court to prison terms of five years and ten months each, along with fines of ₹5,000. One of the convicts had been arrested from the INS Kadamba Naval Base.
The convicted individuals, Kalavalapalli Konda Babu from Visakhapatnam and Avinash Somal from Himachal Pradesh, were found guilty of sharing sensitive naval information with Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Investigations revealed that the accused communicated with the foreign agents through WhatsApp and Facebook, leaking critical details about naval movements and deployments in Karwar.With this latest verdict, six individuals have now been convicted in the case, while a total of 15 people have been arrested for their involvement in the espionage network.
Authorities stated that the network’s activities were aimed at undermining India’s national security and sovereignty by targeting strategic naval assets at Karwar.
