PANAJI: Congress Vice-President Sunil Kawthankar exposed the EscapeGate scandal by releasing a video of Suleman Siddiqui who escaped from Crime branch Custody, giving major fodder to the GPCC to target the state government but his top bosses have let him down.
GPCC President Amit Patkar addressing a critical press conference, a chance to put Dr Pramod Sawant’s government on the mat, seemed at his casual best and his demand for a judicial probe lacked any substance.
The press conference was addressed by Patkar, LoP Yuri Alemao and Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and each one spoke for over 10 minutes.
Shockingly, none of them demanded to know who was this Joshua – named by Siddiqui in his 4.16-minute video at least 10 times.
In the 30-minute press conference, the trio did not mention either Joshua or Dy Speaker even once – indicating to Politician-Politician nexus.
In fact, when this question was posed to Patkar, he said that whenever they protest they have to face criminal cases as FIRs are registered.
He also said that the name is alleged in the video and they have asked for resignation, suspension and cases against all involved thus generalising the statement.
This also indicates that Congress itself is not sure about the authenticity of the video.
This is what they said at the press conference.
Patkar called for an urgent judicial inquiry into the matter.
“The release of a land grab accused from the custody of the Crime Branch exposes the failure of BJP Goa in upholding justice,” he added.
Patkar also questioned whether it is the new face of governance where criminals walk free.
“Goa’s agricultural, forest, paddy, NDZ lands are under threat under this most corrupt BJP Govt led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant” he added.
Amit Patkar demanded the immediate suspension of Goa Police officials implicated in the video shared by accused Suleman Khan.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao today said that the Home Ministry has reached a new low, with enforcement agencies being instructed to bark at the opposition and pet the ruling party.
“Home Ministry has reached a new low, with enforcement agencies being instructed to bark at the opposition and pet the ruling party,” said Alemao.
He further said that people have lost faith in the police department, particularly in the Home Ministry.
“There is no hope left in the law. The Governor should immediately summon the Chief Minister and suspend all the officials whose names have been mentioned by the accused,” he added.
Alemao also said that People have lost faith in the police department; the Governor need to intervene & immediately summon the Chief Minister.
“The governor should suspend all the police officials whose names have been mentioned by the accused” Alemao added.
Alemao further went on to say that it’s shocking that phenyl had been kept inside the toilet of the police station, which was consumed by dismissed IRB constable Amit Naik to commit suicide.
“Govt helped Siddique aka Suleman Khan to escape from Crime Branch’s custody, now are they trying to ‘kill’ evidence? shame!!!” He added.
