Khalap will work in the
interest of Goa: Ferreira

MAPUSA: Stating that the BJP’s incumbent Member of Parliament has done little to address the employment issue in the state, Congress Aldona MLA and coordinator for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat, Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira has urged voters to support the Congress party’s candidate, Ramakant Khalap.
Ferreira said that Khalap was a former union minister and was much appreciated for his stellar performance.
“He is the best performer, I can assure you. He was appreciated during his tenure as union minister. Many people knew him, many people loved him. Khalap is a good person, and I am sure that the people of Goa, not just in North Goa, will support him. He is a gentleman. We need people like him to represent Goa in the Parliament. I urge people to come forward to support him. He will work for Goa’s development and to raise the state’s issues,” he said.
Hitting out at the present BJP North Goa MP Shripad Naik, Ferreira said that he did not address the unemployment issue in the state.
“Many of our youth are jobless. The sitting MP has represented the state for so many terms and has also been a minister. What kind of job opportunities has he brought for Goan youth? What kind of industries has he brought for the state? Only the Ayush hospital that he brought, a few Goans are employed here, and the rest of them are outsiders. At Mopa airport, Goans are employed only for small jobs. For the higher posts, barring a few Goans, mostly outsiders have been hired. He had so much power being state minister for finance, Ayush minister, and tourism minister. What did he do for Goa? I used to meet him for so many government functions. What has he done for the people? We must see the ground reality,” Ferreira said.
The MLA said that Khalap, a lawyer by profession, will work to raise issues concerning the state.
“He has a vision for doing good development for Goa. The state was on the international map for a lot of investments and this gives an opportunity for a lot of employment, not only in terms of job opportunity, but job satisfaction and even the living will change for every person. I am positive that Khalap will take forward people’s aspirations and their trust. He will be there for the people, day or night. He will not let us down. He has his blood and breath for Goa. I appeal to the youth, to the young girls and ladies, and also to the supporters who are not in Congress, to come and vote for Khalap. Let us vote for change,” he said.
On the plan ahead for campaigning, Ferreira said, “We will work out a roadmap for campaigning. We will have meetings and spread the messages with the help of our booth committee workers. There is anger and frustration on the ground against the government. Congress is a party that thinks of the common man. It is not a party of the rich and famous, and bold and beautiful.”
