GALGIBAGA: The Spot where the woman has fallen into the deep gorge on the banks of Galgibaga river, where KRC bridge commences.
CANACONA- Almost in a repeat of a tragedy that struck a former Sarpanch of Loliem-polem Sarpanch Agnes Afonso (3) 10 years ago (14th Feb2015), life of a 48 year old Woman from Avali-Khotigao is snuffed out, at the beginning of the Galgibaga KRC bridge almost in a similar situation at around 11 am on Friday morning.
Coming from Khotigao, 9 women from Khotigao walking alongside the KRC tracks from Maxem side had just crossed the Galgibaga KRC bridge, when they heard sound of an approaching train coming from Canacona TO Karwar direction, and all the 9 women who had just crossed the bridge but since were walking alongside and very close to the KRC tracks got alerted and one of the women shout all to seat down wherever they are and allow the fast running train to Passover towards the bridge. According to reports, the incident took place at about 11 am when a group of nine women from Cotigao were walking alongside the KRC tracks from Maxem side, on their way to Galgibaga-Maxem river to collect a type of shellfish locally known as ‘Mario’.
According to one of the women, all 8 of 9 women sat on the land, while the 8th woman got nervous and didn’t understand what to do, and was left standing as the 9th woman behind her shouted at her to sit down quickly. But as fate would have it, the train ap[proached fast as it was running and she was flown with wind current of the running train in front of the eyes of the woman sitting behind her. The woman fell into a 20-25 metres deep gorge where the Galgibaga –Maxem KRC bridge starts.
After the train passed away, the woman from the backside shouted that one of them had gone missing and immediately in her direction saw the woman lying dead below the deep gorge, as the other 8 women cried for help and attention. Helpl;ess they kept on crying till Canaocna police were alerted who reached the spot before railway police came on the scene.
The body of the deceased victim Supriya Suresh Gaonkar, 48 is reportedly taken in possession by Railway police as though the victim didn’t hit the train, the incident happened very close to the railway bridge and railway tracks.
The woman later speaking to some media stated, she didn’t hit the train at-all but by the whirlwind current of the fast running train had pulled her and thrown into the gorge, where big and small stones and rocks could be seen. She was seen lying in a pool of blood, informed one fo the women crying bitterly.
Konkan railway police team of PI Sunil Gudlar and PSI Kunal Verlekar reached the spot under the KRC bridge and further in the presence of two panchas conducted sceneof UD occurrence panchanama, informed no foul play is suspected . As the death appears to be an accident from the railway bridge. . the body is shifted to SGDH , Margao morgue to observe further medico-legal formalities. It may be recalled that in a similar way, a former Loliem Polem sarpanch Agnes Afonso (53) who was heading to attend a morning mass at Galgibaga church, had died after she crossed the KRC bridge, and is suspected to have hit a running train or have flown off to the almost same deep gorge from where the Khotigao woman is found on Friday.
