PANAJI: Mohammad Sohail, accused in a land grab case, has been re-arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and remanded to three days of police custody.
Officials said the SIT took Sohail into custody again as part of its ongoing investigation into a series of land grab cases that allegedly involved forging documents and impersonating property owners to illegally transfer land.
The SIT was constituted by the Goa government in 2022 after multiple complaints emerged of large-scale fraudulent land deals, some targeting properties belonging to senior citizens and NRIs. Over the past two years, the SIT has registered dozens of FIRs and made multiple arrests while unearthing scams involving forged sale deeds, fake power of attorney documents, and the misuse of official records. Police said Sohail’s re-arrest aims to gather further evidence about his alleged role in coordinating such fraudulent transactions.
