MARGAO: Land losers will be given preference for jobs and prospects for self-employment through the Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC), according to South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes.
He committed to writing KRC to request an extension of the application deadline for the 190 available positions. In a meeting with Fernandes, land losers whose property was purchased for the Konkan Railway Project submitted a memorandum asking for confirmation of priority over business spaces and employment in the KRC.
They emphasized the unfulfilled promise of primacy in employment possibilities and the sacrifices made by Goans who gave up their land for the Konkan Railway Project in exchange for very little money.
They mentioned that more than 25 stores are being built on the Navelim side of the KRC station in Margao, and that there are 190 employment openings that have been announced, with October 7 being the deadline for applications.
Regarding the commercial space, they mentioned how some organizations are marketing the space for rent and said they had learned of a contract that was signed with an external state organization that grants them the authority to build the stores and rent them out while providing the Railways with a set amount of revenue.
The delegation vehemently objected to the same and urged the MP to look into the situation in order to prevent land losers from losing their guaranteed rights.
In order to force the Konkan Railway authorities to give preference to the land losers in this program of allotment of shops/kiosks currently under construction, the delegation made a petition to the MP.
In order to enable qualified family members of land losers and Goan unemployed youth to apply for jobs and guarantee they are given precedence for the same, they also asked the MP to request an extension of the deadline.
