Shopowners, and locals demand urgent repairs

PONDA: The shopowners, including a fair price shop operating at Ponda Market Complex, have complained about the complex roof in the rain and have demanded immediate repairs.
Councillor Shivanand Sawant said there is badly need to conduct repair work. He said locals are inconvenienced due to a fault in the gutter roof, which is leaking.
He urged the chairperson to immediately look into the matter.
Former Chairperson Shantaram Colvekar said the priority should be given to work in places where public visits for their work.
According to Viraj Sapre, the leaking market complex had made the floor slippery and difficult to walk on, and many got injured so far.
He said even the Municipal Library is leaking, and dust bins kept to collect on the ground floor are overflowing.
There was heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, following which the rain was found leaking from the roof sheet. The leaking rainwater has accumulated in front of the pathway to the fair price shop operating on the Mezzanine floor of the Market Complex, posing a risk to the consumers. The floor becomes slippery due to accumulated rainwater.
Several consumers visit Market Complex to buy monthly ration quota.
Earlier in the past also, there was an incident wherein one consumer fell on the floor and was critically injured.
Besides Fair Price shops, there are a few other shops and the Municipal library in Market Complex, and several people visit to read books and newspapers.
Besides this, the floor of the Complex appears with dust and stray dog and pigeons waste, which need to be maintained clean. Locals demanded one sleeper for cleaning and maintenance of the floor.
Therefore the vendors, shopowners and others urged PMC to look into the matter and conduct repairs to the roof of the market.
