MARGAO: Following alarming report of PHC-Balli, Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao has written to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to conduct comprehensive health impact assessment to identify and address the environmental and health issues affecting people of his constituency.
Primary Health Centre at Balli has conducted survey of around 449 houses in the areas of adjoining to Cuncolim Industrial estate, wherein many people are found suffering from various diseases due to industrial pollution.
“In this survey people have complained about pollution, foul smell complaining they are allergic to that. I had raised this issue during zero hour of just concluded assembly session and Health Minister has assured me to conduct survey of Cuncolim Municipal area,” Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said, adding he has also made a request by writing a letter to Health Minister.
As per the report of PHC-Balli, they have conducted this survey in Simplear, Kegdicotto, Masconi, Bellathemb, Gullecotto, Bhatti, Takaband and IDC.
Around 28 people have been suffering from Respiratory problem, 29 have Skin allergy, 11 people suffering from Asthma, one is found with Chronic Kidney disease, 8 people have sinus problem, two have past history of Tuberculosis, one is suffering from Psoriasis, and others have complained of dust allergy and eye burning sensation. One is also found with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Alemao said that along with hazardous waste dumped in Cuncolim Industrial Estate, the escalating levels of water and air pollution in Cuncolim, particularly due to the fish processing units, Steel manufacturing units at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, had demand immediate and thorough investigation as people are facing health issues.
