NEW DELHI: In a heartfelt gesture, Yuri Alemao, the Leader of the Opposition in Goa, paid his respects to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi. This tribute was a testament to Dr. Singh’s enduring legacy as a renowned economist, statesman, and visionary leader.
Alemao, accompanied by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar, honoured Dr. Singh’s remarkable contributions to India’s economic growth and global standing.
The visit underscored the deep respect and admiration that Dr Singh commands across the political spectrum for his pivotal role in shaping India’s economic policies.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014, is widely credited with initiating significant economic reforms that transformed India’s economy. His tenure saw the implementation of policies that opened up India to global trade, led to rapid economic growth, and elevated India’s status on the international stage.
As a Finance Minister in the 1990s, Dr Singh played a crucial role in liberalizing India’s economy, introducing policies that helped the country navigate a severe economic crisis.
