New Delhi: Security agencies have launched an extensive counter-terror operation across Jammu and Kashmir to dismantle what investigators describe as a “Doctor Module” a radicalised network of medical professionals allegedly linked to the Red Fort bombing. According to intelligence officials, the State Investigation Agency conducted coordinated searches at 14 locations on Wednesday across Srinagar, Pulwama, and Anantnag in a major bid to disrupt the emerging nexus.
Authorities said the operation aims to trace ideological handlers, digital collaborators, and funding channels that facilitated the recruitment of educated professionals into extremist ranks. The module, reportedly influenced by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operatives, used doctors’ credibility and low public suspicion to build covert cells capable of executing high-impact attacks.
Investigators highlighted a growing trend of radical clerics and JeM-linked influencers exploiting social and professional isolation among young doctors to spread extremist narratives. This approach, officials warned, has enabled terrorists to form “high-trust” cells deeply embedded within civil society a shift from earlier militant recruitment patterns in the region.
The current investigation has drawn significant parallels between the 2025 Red Fort explosion and the 2011 Delhi High Court bombing, both carrying JeM’s operational signature. In each case, ammonium nitrate-based improvised explosive devices were used to target symbolic sites in the national capital, resulting in heavy casualties.
Authorities have identified several doctors as key conspirators in the Red Fort case, including Dr Umar Nabi of Pulwama, Dr Muzammil Ganai, and Dr Adeel Rather. All are believed to have acted under the influence of radical cleric Irfan Waghey and JeM operatives based in Pakistan, one known by the alias “Umar bin Khattab.”
Investigators believe the Red Fort blast was planned as retaliation for India’s 2024 Operation Sindoor, which targeted JeM bases in Bahawalpur. With the National Investigation Agency and Delhi Police leading the probe, officials warn that the “Doctor Module” signals a disturbing evolution in militant strategy blending professional legitimacy with extremist intent to evade detection.
