PANAJI: In the same way that Goa supports Kannada-medium primary schools and high school teachers, the All-India Konkani Parishad has decided that the Goa government should convince the governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala to offer grants and salaries for teachers at Konkani-medium schools in those states.
Among the other resolutions, it was demanded that government employees receive continuous Konkani language instruction, particularly for the efficient functioning of their departmental official duties.
The third resolution requested that the government, and more especially the Education department, mandate that all children in Goa’s schools up to the XII level be taught Konkani.
The creation of a Language Commission was also demanded. For the Official Language Act to be implemented smoothly and effectively, the resolution also stated that the Commissioner should be a non-political language specialist and be granted cabinet position.
The government shall not loosen the 15-year residency requirement or the Konkani knowledge requirement for hiring in government and semi-government organizations, such as Goa University, according to a resolution passed by the Parishad. The Goan government should also mandate that 80% of jobs be given to Goans by all businesses and enterprises operating in the state.
The sixth resolution requested that the Goan government assign Devnagari the task of transcribing literature between Roman and Kannada script and vice versa, as well as provide the necessary funding and other resources for this endeavor.
