PANAJI: Panaji police arrested a 29-year-old man for illegal possession of suspected ganja during a late-night raid near Four Pillar, Bandh area in Panaji.
According to police, Panaji Police Station Crime No. 51/2026 was registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985, based on a complaint filed by PSI Mahadev Pednekar.
Police said that between 1 am and 3.30 am on April 1, a specific raid was conducted near Bandh, Four Pillar, Panaji, during which the accused, identified as Jonup Gharti Magar, a native of Dang, Nepal, currently residing near Healthway Hospital at Old Goa, was caught red-handed.
During the raid, police allegedly found the accused in possession of 480 grams of greenish leafy fruiting and flowering substance suspected to be narcotic drug ganja, valued at approximately Rs 48,000 in the international market.
The accused was placed under arrest at 5.01 am after observing Supreme Court guidelines. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mahadev Pednekar of Panaji Police Station.
