VALPOI: Valpoi police have registered a case against a man after an assault victim succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at GMC Bambolim.
According to police, a woman lodged a complaint on May 7, 2026, stating that the incident took place on April 24 at around 8 pm outside her house at Postwada Honda in Sattari.
The accused has been identified as Ganesh Ladu Gaonkar, a resident of Postwada Honda, Sattari.
Police said the accused allegedly assaulted the complainant’s son, Dinesh Gaonkar, with a wooden fencing stick on the back of his leg, causing him to fall on the road. The accused allegedly further attacked him with a small piece of coconut trunk on his head, neck and backside of the head, due to which he became unconscious.
The complainant also alleged that the accused assaulted her on the face, causing pain and headache.
During the course of investigation, PSI Krishna Gawas received information from GMC Bambolim on May 8 that Dinesh Gaonkar had died while undergoing treatment. Following his death, police added Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to murder.
Valpoi Police have registered Crime No. 22/2026 under Sections 103 and 115(2) of BNS. Further investigation is in progress.
