CANDOLIM: Calangute police have registered an offence against a Candolim resident for allegedly burning a live Indian Rock Python, an act reported by an animal welfare official.
According to police, Calangute PS Crime No. 51/2026 has been registered under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, based on a complaint filed by Darryl Finch, Field Officer of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The complaint states that prior to 1.15 pm on March 31, the accused, identified as Mehboob, a resident of Orda, Candolim in Bardez, allegedly burned and killed a live snake identified as an Indian Rock Python.
Following the complaint, police registered the offence at 9.21 pm the same day. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Saieel Vaigankar of Calangute Police Station.
