COLVALE: Colvale police arrested a 56-year-old man for allegedly conducting illegal gambling in an open public place at Camurlim in Bardez.
According to police, Colvale PS Crime No. 31/2026 was registered under Section 11(2)(a) of the Public Gambling Act based on a complaint lodged by HC Sitaram Chodankar.
Police said that at around 11 am on March 31 at Maina Patto, Camurlim, the accused identified as Raju, son of Laxman Reddy, was caught red-handed while accepting money from members of the public for a game of chance commonly known as the “number game” and issuing paper slips.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to Rs 1,100 in different denominations along with other gambling-related articles.
The accused was arrested at 12.34 pm after following Supreme Court guidelines and was later released on bail at 1.20 pm the same day. Further investigation is being carried out by HC Sitaram Chodankar of Colvale Police Station.
