MARGAO: The Marathi Rajbhasha Nirdhar Samiti (South Goa) has announced a grand rally and convention at Lohia Maidan, Margao, on April 12 from 4 pm to press for granting official language status to Marathi in Goa. The gathering will be addressed by senior leaders of the association, who are expected to outline the future course of the movement.
Addressing a press conference in Margao on Friday, members of the Samiti reiterated their demand for due recognition to Marathi and stressed the need for justice to the language as a state language. They also called for greater public awareness and participation to strengthen the demand.
The committee stated that during the upcoming Assembly session, they will urge the government to move and pass a resolution conferring official language status to Marathi. The proposed rally, they said, aims to mobilise public support and highlight the importance of safeguarding linguistic heritage.
Representatives from various organisations are expected to participate in the convention, where the objectives of the movement, the Samiti’s stand on the Marathi Rajbhasha demand, and its future strategy will be discussed.
