MARGAO: In a significant development, the Margao Session Court on Tuesday handed down a conviction to Vijay Singh, a resident of Fatorda, Margao, for his involvement in a prostitution racket at Colva.
Vijay Singh, son of Kuwar Singh and a native of Itarasi, Shivanimava, Ursangabad, M.P., was found guilty under Section 5 of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.
The case, which was investigated by the then Colva Police inspector Melson Colaco, stemmed from Singh’s arrest under sections 370(A)(2) of the IPC and Sections 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act of 1956. Acting upon reliable information, Colva police, led by PI Melson Colaco, conducted a raid at the Colva parking lot.
During the raid, Singh was apprehended red-handed in the presence of two Panch witnesses. He was accompanied by two women who had been trafficked for the purpose of prostitution. The victims were promptly rescued in the presence of an NGO, and Singh was subsequently placed under arrest on 31st July 2020.
The conviction serves as a stern warning against those involved in illicit activities such as human trafficking and prostitution. It underscores the commitment of police and law enforcement agencies in combating such crimes and ensuring justice for the victims.
With the Margao Session Court’s verdict, justice has been served, sending a clear message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated in society.
