Margao: Margao Sports Club delivered a dominant performance to outclass Carmona Sports Club 6-0 and seal their spot in the quarterfinals of the 17th St. Anthony Festival Cup 2025, organized by St. Anthony Sports Club Assolda and played at the Moll Ground in Assolda.
The match began under challenging conditions as persistent rain made ball control difficult for both teams. Despite the slippery surface, Margao found their rhythm early and broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through Alfred Noronha, who headed the ball into the net to give his team a 1-0 lead. Carmona nearly responded moments later with a powerful shot by Kayne Cardozo, but Margao goalkeeper Karol Soares pulled off a brilliant save, pushing the ball out for a corner. The score remained 1-0 at the half.
Margao returned with renewed energy in the second half and completely dominated the proceedings. Forward Hanshlum Furtado stole the show with a stunning hat-trick, netting goals in the 33rd, 35th, and 46th minutes to sink Carmona’s hopes. Clencio Pinto and Sarineo Fernandes added one goal each to round off a commanding 6-0 victory.
For his outstanding performance, Hanshlum Furtado was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Custodio Fernandes, Sarpanch of Village Panchayat Assolda.
