DABOLIM: As the partial demolition of house within funnel zone of Dabolim Airport continues, local MLA & Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has blamed the Navy for the demolitions.
Godinho said that the Navy’s inconsistent policy has made the people suffer. Earlier, Navy granted permissions to these houses for 3.8 mt height. But now the Navy is insisting to demolish above 1.5 mts.
Godinho also blamed the govt lawyers for failing to put up strong case for the residents in the High Court.
“The Navy should reconsider its affiliation with civil society as it has turned into a completely negative organization, despite its previous cooperative nature. Although I had great ties with the Navy as well, I am extremely saddened by the demolition of homes belonging to individuals who already held a Navy NOC.
“If this keeps up, all homes will have to be destroyed, and the Navy’s capricious behavior will not be tolerated. I want the Navy to wake up and inform the public if it intends to destroy every civilian’s home, even those who had permission.”
Godinho has stated that panchayat areas require a reevaluation of homes.
“Despite the added convenience of being able to register a house, I have observed in some areas that people do not want to pay taxes. Because they don’t want to pay the panchayat, some people who have illegally built homes refuse to register them with AHN numbers, according to Godinho.
It is necessary to hold those who own four or five houses accountable. I’ll even give the Dy Collector instructions on how to deal with them. When people fail to pay their taxes, how can a panchayat continue to exist? Some have leased their homes and do not want to pay the first month’s rent; others do not want to pay house tax at all.
