MORLEM: While stating that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the forest fires in the, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has warned that forest department staff could face suspension if they have been found irresponsible in handling the situation.
CM Sawant late yesterday night chaired a High-Level Meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority along with Minister Vishwajit Rane, Poriem MLA Dr Deviya Rane, senior Govt officers, and officials of Forest, Police, and Fire to take a review of the fire situation in the Sattari area.
“The Govt authorities, along with the support of locals, are working on getting the situation under complete control. Have also spoken to FOGA about continuing the Navy support. The inquiry has been ordered, and any mischief/misconduct found will be strictly dealt with,” said CM Sawant.
The chief minister further stated that various teams work day and night to see that the fire is controlled.
“Wherever fire tenders cannot access the site, teams of around 30-35 personnel are handling the crisis on the spot,” he said.
CM also urged people to clean their cashew plantations close to forest areas by burning the dry grass to refrain from doing so to avoid the spread of fire.
“All forest forces were deployed, and the fire was doused yesterday. It has erupted again today,” informed CM.
He said that the forest dept has initiated an inquiry into the matter, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
He also added that if Forest Dept Officials are found to be irresponsible in handling the matters, they will be suspended.
