PANAJI: Panchayats Minister Mauvind Godinho today said that his government is contemplating to start the use biometrics for marking attendance of Panchayat secretaries.
The information was shared by the Panchayat Minister on the floor of the house over discussion on punctuality and irregularities by Panchayat Secretaries which caused several hardships to common man.
Conceding that many Panchayat Secretaries are not punctual and also involved in illegalities Mauvin assured the house that he will tighten the noose and put stringent measures in place to take requisite action on erring secretaries.
He urged the legislators to refrain from intervening when actions such as transfers, suspension etc are initiated against such secretaries.
Godinho also said that he will stop the practice of allotment of temporary house numbers i.e. Enable House Numbers (EHN) to illegal houses through panchayats as it has been observed that the provision is being misused.
“In 2021 the state government had directed village panachayats to issue temporary house numbers to illegal houses for the purpose of collecting various taxes for revenue generation,” he said.
Cumbharjua MLA Rajesh Phaldesai informed the house that more than 50 illegal houses at Khorlim, Old Goa were given EHN numbers recently by the Panchayat Secretary.
